Denny's = The NAACP Commissary
Compared to These Places

On a recent cross-country trip to promote my new book, Jeff Koyen's Complete Guide to Glory Holes in the U.S., Vol. 1 (Akashic, 253 pages), I was rather surprised to encounter several restaurants with names that could, conceivably, be considered racially insensitive. Haven't they heard all the PSAs? Were all of our marches in college for naught?!

Well, whether or not the owners of these restaurants intended to insult anyone--or even if anyone in one of the ethnic groups is insulted--I'm exposing them as the racists they are. I beg you: If you live anywhere near one of these establishments, let them know that I am on the case. And I won't rest until every food service professional in this country is blind to the color of their patrons' skin. Then, and only then, when the neutrality and beauty of plain, white skin is acknowledged by every restaurateur in the country, will I consider my work complete.

God bless me.
